It's All In The FamilyOmonomopoeia began somewhat accidentally in July, 2009. Danielle had been planning with her friends to make some anime and video game-inspired crafts to sell in Otakon 2009's Artist Alley under the name “Arigateau.” When Dave (brother) and Jen (Dave's wife) moved in with her (ok let's be honest here they're living in their parents' basement), they were swept up by the flood of creativity and excitement, and joined the Arigateau team. Once Otakon ended, after a week of sleep, Dave, Jen, and Danielle all realized they couldn't just stop. Since Danielle's friends were content to leave Arigateau an annual, Otakon- exclusive endeavor, Omonomopoeia was born. A family-run, amateur business intended to bring happiness to the classic gamer. Armed with unbearable cuteness and boundless gaming enthusiasm, Dave, Jen, and Danielle set out to make their spontaneous summer project into Omonomopoeia. But why "Omonomopoeia"? It's a combination of Onomatopoeia (noun- the formation of a word by imitation of a sound made by or associated with its referent) and "Om nom nom nom," the internet representation of the sound of eating. Together they make "Omonomopoeia," which is itself an onomatopoeia. And what does this have to do with our products? Very little. But this combination of factors, intellectuality with adorability, embodies the attitude of this team:General questions/concerns/compliments/suggestions:customerservice@omonom.com
Dave - Chairman of LightsDave has been playing video games ever since he got a Super Nintendo when he was 5 years old. He used to jump around when playing as if he was Mario, and his favorite level was Yoshi's Island 1 (the level with the giant Bullet Bills). He is a fan of many (and most!) games, and his favorite genres are strategy, FPS, and RPGs. He enjoys making glowing fairies in bottles mostly because they glow, but also because there is something magical about taking something from a game and making it real. Omonomopoeia has been the most fun and rewarding experience of his life.dave@omonom.com
Jen - Head of PlushJen is a recent graduate from Frostburg State University with a bachelor's degree in English with concentrations in Creative Writing and Professional Writing. She begins all her introductions that way, as most recent graduates can't get jobs. She learned to sew when she was young, and has been moving forward (like a turtle on a treadmill) with the hobby ever since. She truly believes that each of the Lumas she makes are her children, and she only sells them because she can't afford to feed them all. In addition to things fuzzy, she handles much of Omonom's public relations. Her dream in life is to be completely surrounded by cute things, and most of her favorite words begin with the letters "squ-". <3 jen@omonom.com
Danielle - Jeweler and Pillow WranglerDanielle is currently working on her undergrad degree in East Asian Studies at New York University, although she is plagued daily by dreams of running away to work at Charm City Cakes. She has been sewing for about 3 years now, and cannot remember a time when she wasn't doing some sort of craft or another. She adores working with Super Mario themes because they make her all warm and fuzzy, but she is very open to suggestion. She is always ready to bring more cuteness into the world!danielle@omonom.com
Gordon - Convention Staff and Lint Roller ExpertAs Danielle's boyfriend and a veteran member of the Omonom Convention Team, Gordon is an asset to Omonom's general sanity and execution. During product creation he provides lint rolling, ironing, folding, stuffing, packaging and moral support. At conventions he helps staff the table, field customer questions, remind team members to eat, and prevent mental meltdowns (if only for Danielle). With an excellent sense of humor, Gordon is the source of many of our team jokes that still make us giggle uncontrollably when mentioned. During the design process Gordon is also a fountain of video game inspiration and knowledge, having far too much experience with video games for his own good. gordoon@omonom.com
